Sorry folks I’m a day late with this post but I’m here to show you how I made this magic card in the latest Iron Craft Challenge. Read on for another post in my Surprise Me series!
Let me first start with showing you a few pictures of the card so you understand whats “magic” about it :)
Get the idea? :) Its a line drawn image to start with but when you pull the tab at the top, voila! It becomes a colored image!
Supplies: Cardstock: PTI Smokey Shadow card base, PTI White for colored image and strips, patterned paper from stash for background, transparent cardstock for outline image Stamp: TAWS Gotta Bug Inks: Copics, Sharpie, Stazon, Memento Tuxedo Black, Memento colors for strips Accessories: Tsukineko white embossing powder Tools: Silhouette Cameo, Cuttlebug, Nestabilities petite ovals

Magic Card Cutting File 6.54 KB - The cutting file is color coded for easy understanding. All the card pieces you need are in there. You probably won’t be able to cut all pieces at once so follow the steps with multiple cutting passes. In each cutting pass, only keep the piece you are cutting on the mat and move the rest off it in Silhouette Studio.
- Start with the dark grey colored piece with the white slit. Cut your base cardstock with this. Score it at 5.5″. This will be your card base.
- Next cut the white piece with white cardstock. This will be where you will stamp your image.
- Next cut the light grey piece with transparent cardstock. You may require to adjust your Cameo’s settings to cut with this but it cuts well don’t worry :)
- Next cut the yellow piece with patterned paper that you want behind the outline image. Make sure this is light patterned paper since you want your outline image to show.
- Next cut the green piece with the same cardstock as your base. This will be the window piece on the top.
- Stack the white cardstock piece and the oval window piece on on top of the other in this order such that their top edges meet and clip together with a binder clip, clothespin or paperclip.
- Carefully stamp your outline stamp through the oval window on the white cardstock with Memento black ink and color it.
- Re-arrange your stack such that you now have the white cardstock at the bottom then the transparent piece then the oval window. Stamp your outline stamp again using Stazon ink on the transparent sheet. Make sure the outline is aligned with the colored image outline and both images are visible through the oval. Remember to heat-set the ink after stamping.
- You can relax now! The hard part is over :)
- I am going to point you to Beate’s excellent video on assembling the card now that you have all the individual pieces cut, colored and ready. Its way more easy to put this together with a cutting file since you don’t have to worry about measurements!
